Login Names

I remember when I registered originally, I had to use my real name (or at least a name-like handle). I chose my real name. I actually grown to quite like it. It links the authors to the engine quite clearly.

However, I see quite a few posters using nicknames. Has the above rule been relaxed? Is there a possibility to ask users to use real names again?

Just wondering... :)

Sadly enough that policy has been abandoned...

As far as I know that has been discussed in the Admin/Moderators Forum only a few years ago. And if I'm not wrong you can read and write in that forum.

Generally I agree that everyone should not have a problem to sign his opinion with his real name, but since the idiots and advertisement people took control of the forums / news groups / mailings lists (called web 2.0) I don't agree with me any longer.

I am not a moderator here, and the fact that I have been given moderator rights (so that the board software thinks I am, under my alternate name 'hgm') is purely for enabling me to maintain the WinBoard downloads thread (which needs unlocking / locking to update it for every new release, which seems to require moderator rights). Naturally I don't abuse these rights for snooping in places where I have no business.
