I tell you because it's important that you know this, on the surface it does not seem to be Crafty, but taking a closer look at it indicates that it is Crafty to a very measurable extent. I'm very unhappy having to be one of the people saying this.

Es geht nicht darum, jemanden anzugreifen, sondern jemanden zu verstehen. Jedenfalls für mich.

The reason why people talk about Gabriele Müller in the CCC is the following: most of them simply don't know her email address (including myself).
It is not about to attack a person but to understand. Anyhow it is my case.

I just don't like being someone who says that Gabriele did not write this program all by herself and that I beleive that she has missrepresented this program, and yes I beleive this is Crafty. I have just sent the email approximatlly 15 minutes ago, it contains the string output of Crafty and Lapetite, and also the string output for several programs that are not to the best of my knowlage based on Crafty (for comparison).

I think that people should use the word "clone" more carefully. For me, a clone is something being identical (in all essential things) to something already existing. Think for example of the use of the term "clone" in gen technology. With this definition, neither LaPetite nor voyager is a clone of Crafty, because these programs play clearly different chess.
Another question could be to what extent LaPetite is based on Crafty. I think that this can only be answered by the authors themselves. I imagine, using the quite offensive word "clone" however will not encourage Gabriele to enter into the discussion.

You are right about the term clone and thus, not even Crafty is a Crafty clone, because there are a lot of different versions.
I don't know if LaPetite is a modified Crafty, cause I haven't checked it personally. But Bob put a lot of arguments in CCC, that seem enough for me. Besides, the author removed the program from Frank's page. This means something...
About the "offensive" word "clone", although it is not correct, I don't think it is offensive enough for a fraud. Crafty is for me, and for many other people, a fantastic source of chess programming knowledge. I don't want Bob removing Crafty's source code because someone is making fraudulent modifications of it.
If somebody modifies Crafty, I think there's no problem to say "this is my modified Crafty" or "my version of Crafty". But lies and fraud are no good for anyone.
I repeat, I don't know about LaPetite. I'm speaking in general.
