Faile and Opening Book

Here are my faile files:
E:\programme\winboard\Faile>dir
Volume in drive E has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 0C09-5BD6
Directory of E:\programme\winboard\Faile
05/11/00 02:42p .
05/11/00 02:42p ..
03/03/99 02:05a 291,260 faile.opn
03/28/00 08:30p 90,112 Faile_06.exe
4 File(s) 381,372 bytes
228,835,328 bytes free
And here are my faile winboard.ini entries:
\"Faile_06 -xboard\" /fd=\"e:\\programme\\winboard\\Faile\"
\"Faile_06 -xboard\" /sd=\"e:\\programme\\winboard\\Faile\"
When I run FAILE on very fast time controls, it still moves slowly in the opening (as though it were ignoring the book). Is this usual? Does anyone know how to set up the book properly?

It's working normal for me, and allthough we have different dates on our Faile opening books, the size is the same, so I assume that they're the same, it's an ascii text list of moves, so...
The only thing I notice that's really all that diffferent is that you call out the path alittle different in winboard.ini, I don't think there's a problem with how you did it because there's a second \ that surronds that path, where I don't have them at all:
\"Faile -xboard \" /fd=d:\\faile
but you could try:
"Faile_06 -xboard\" /fd=e:\\programme\\winboard\\Faile
and:
"Faile_06 -xboard\" /sd=e:\\programme\\winboard\\Faile
but I don't think that will fix it.

I think your setup should be okay, but I'm not sure since Faile doesn't belong to my collection at this point in time. How is ColChess coming along?
Sincerely,

I'm feeling a bit incompetent, as I have been completely unable to get *either* Colin's or my version of the engine to run under Winboard. I don't use Drive C, so that may be part of the problem somehow.

Yes some people have had that problem. I have absolutely no idea why that should make any difference at all. I'll check the code again though. It may be a winboard problem I fear.....
Let me know if you find anything.
Cheers,
Colin
