I hate to sound dumb, but could you please explain what opc and epd are, and why this utility is useful?

EPD files contain chess positions. The main part of them are equal to FEN files but EPDs allow you also to include additional information (with opcodes ie named fields).
From readme.txt of OPC2EPD
===========================
The program to extract all available information on positions/moves from a PGN
file and add it to EPD. It is created by Dann Corbit's request.
Information which is added to EPD:
----------------------------------
- player on move (c0);
- game result (c0);
- PV (pv)
- evaluation (ce)
- depth (acd)
- time (acs)
- nodes per second (acn)
- unkown type of information in comments is converted to c1

Igor
