I believe this is the line to add to the zappa.ini file (avoid d5). It should accept 0-0, O-O, or o-o. I will follow your advice, though I think the main problem is
13...Re8?!, which Zappa always prefers in the Marshall line.
BTW how do I write '0-0' in the avoid line for Zappa?
(is it just 0-0 or Kg8/Kg1 or sth else?)

It is not that the Marshall Gambit is bad, it is that Zappa's eval (especially kingsafety) is very bad. It relies on outsearching its opponents to win.
