Hello,
B.O.E.C. means: best of each country
Tomorrow I'll start a tournament with freeware engines from Scandinavia.
Minimal elostrength needed: +-2000
Participants:
Denmark: Chezzz, Frenzee
Finland: Requiem
Norway: Gothmog
Sweden: Alarm, KnightDreamer, Marvin, Ruffian, Terra.
I think that Requiem is the strongest engine in Finland, but if I'm wrong, please let me know.
Conditions:
Double round robin
30' KO
hash=64 MB, ownbook or remis.ctg, 3, 4 and some 5-pieces tbs
Hardware:
pentium IV 2.0 GHz, 768 Ram.
The winner of each country will play in a final "best of" tournament, or in a qualifying tournament if a country had less then 50% in the previous edition. Gothmog is qualified automatically, cause there are no other strong opponents available in Norway, and obtained 4.5/9 in the final tournament of last edition. So it's nothing more then a test for the latest version.

available in Norway,
There is at least one other Norwegian chess engine: Polar Chess by Odd Gunnar
Malin. I don't know much about its strength. It is probably a bit weaker than
Gothmog, but when Alarm, KnightDreamer, Marvin and Terra are allowed to compete
with Ruffian for the title of the strongest Swedish engine, I think Polar Chess
deserves to be given a chance to fight for the right to represent Norway.

Hi Tord,
I took a minimum elostrength of +-2000 points. All the Swedish engines you mentioned have at least this rating, according to Leo's eloranking, my personal list and a few others.
On the other hand, I agree with your remark. In the first place, we should have respect for each engine author, and how can you show it better then including all the programs in such a tournament. Unfortunately, the tournement started before I red your comment, but I'll change the rules for next edition. There are still some weaknesses in my tourney system, but I just try to create something new.
Best regards,
Geert
