ProDeo and hash

How to adjust the hash size in Winboard? I tried editing the text file "params.txt" which read
initial hash size 4M
current hash size 4M
I replaced these values with 32M, but to no avail- when a game starts, the file immediately is restored to the abovementioned values.

param.txt is not a configuration file. It's more like a log file that shows which personality and parameters are currently in use.
