Thanks for running the AEGT

Hi all,
I just wanted to say a big THANKYOU to Heinz and ALL the testers who contributed to the AEGT project. It is a great concept and benefits us poor engine programmers immensely. It provides conclusive performance data, highlights eval errors and bugs, and it motivates us to try to improve.
I don't want to mention the next AEGT too soon, suffice it to say, I'm looking forward to it. It seems this is a time of great activity amongst the authors and there are many engines rapidly improving. Perhaps, that is due to the major contributions of Fabien, Tord and Ed who have shared ideas freely and generously. (BTW, I don't tend to share ideas freely because it would do more harm than good. )
Thanks for including TRACE 1.29... 1.31 is coming soon. It seems that king safety actually helps. Yes, really! So, look out when Fabien implements it in Fruit... its going to be a monster!
Best wishes,
Ross

Yes, I just wanted to second Ross' thank you to all the testers and to Heinz for organizing the AEGT.
It was a great idea and well executed. There were hints of behind the scenes discord (as is wont
to happen when strong personalities discuss anything), but I take the long-term view that like sausage,
the final product was very good and we mere programmers are better off not knowing what went into
the mix.

Hi guys ,
thanks for your kind words. Good to know that at least a few people like what we are doing here and we are doing this because we feel that you (the authors) are working on their engines with enthusiasm and heartblood. So we think it is still a good idea to let as much engines as possible participate in AEGT (and not only 8 or 10, mainly always the same ones) and therefore a lot of help is needed and so my heartily thanks to all testers who like me consider this an adventure we can learn a lot from.
As Tom is mentioning discord here I have to say that the whole group is very harmonic and all are doing their best. Discussions are necessary to fix the rules and decide how to go on and most also liked this process. Anyway it is quite normal that you have in every bigger group some people who start very eagerly but soon lose interest again (but most we have here are experienced testers) and of course it is also probable to have people in not able to work in a team and reluctant to the fact of not being able to decide all alone. But when then someone like Johan comes feelimg that the group needed urgent help this gives us a lot of new power and trust in a project that must be promising as long as many trustworthy people combine their efforts and enthusiasm. I really have to say thanks to everyone in the group for their support (and here CPU power is the least important thing).
This one needs some weeks more to be finished, but you can be sure that we already have a lot of ideas how to go on, not only for giving data, but to give a lot of fun to all, what is the most important thing here like Roger repeatedly wrote.
Best Regards
Heinz
