Addition to my homepage (2nd try).

Due to an idea by Aaron following a discussion about tablebases, I've decided to add a "How to install and use tablebases" to my WinBoard setup frame. Any comments would be appreciated.
Best wishes...

Sometime an explanation about the process of generating a TB might be good too (for those of us who have not tried it yet)

The generating command is described in the readme file:
"To generate all 3- and 4-man tables you have to type
tbgen -m 10 -p kpkp kppk
(program will use 10Mb of RAM for generated tables and will either map
or load necessary minor tables into memory). It takes 2 hours to generate
all 3- and 4-man tables at PII/400."
So that is very easy. There's also an explanation regarding 5-piece generation, with or without pawn.
The problem is compressing them. There's a program called datacomp that is supposed to be used for that. I can't remember if you have to have to use switches, or if "datacomp knkn.nbb" is enough.
Sincerely,
Mogens

Two things are important:
1. "Blocksize" has to be 8192
2. Each tablebase has to be compressed separately
I put all the commands in a bat file:
@echo off
datacomp e:8192 kbbk.nbb
datacomp e:8192 kbk.nbb
datacomp e:8192 kbkb.nbb
[...]
datacomp e:8192 krpk.nbw
datacomp e:8192 krrk.nbw

That's the switch I couldn't remember. Thank you for reminding me.
Yes, that I could remember, not exactly the most funny part.
Since I'm a computer moron I didn't think of this solution back then. I'll add the info to my webpage some time today.
Best wishes...

PS: What does HTH mean? (In Denmark it is a company that sell kitchens)

The following information have been added to my WinBoard page:
- How to install and use Nalimov tablebases.
- How to generate and compress Nalimov tablebases yourself.
If you want to access that page in particular use the URL:
http://home1.stofanet.dk/moq/WBuse.htm
Otherwise access the WinBoard page through the link below.
Sincerely,
Mogens
