New Crafty Binary for 16.17

There is a new Intel Win32 binary available at my ftp site for Crafty, version 16.17. I make some of my own modifications, so before you make a bug report to Dr. Hyatt, make sure that his version has the same defect.

You've optimized Phalanx and Crafty. I wondered if it's possible to optimize GNUChess, because the source code is available at the GNU-site. I've already replaced the one supplied with winboard with one found at the Pittsburg archives. The source is gnuchess-4.0.pl77.tar.gz. The readme file was as follows:
"This archive just replaces the gnuchesr.exe and gnuchesx.exe executables
with what appears to be on my machine executables that are almost twice
as fast than what is in the original distribution from the MIT site..source
is the same..just compiled on MSVC++4.0 with Host=WIN95..not sure if this works
in plain old DOS or not....this is a console application...you may use Winboard
as GUI.
There is no warranty express or implied..please read the License.
Note you must have the *original* download if you wish to use the opening
book...this will work without it...but with no opening book.
PS...I'm not a GNU Chess expert...so don't expect a lot of help
if you have problems.

GNUChess is a mess. It has all sorts of evil, chummy things like strcpy() with NULL pointers and expecting strcpy() to handle it gracefully. I took a look but don't want to bother with it. I would estimate 100 hours to fix it.

What have you done with this version exactly?
BTW it is running under Fritz, too.

A few small changes to make arrays bigger and things like that (for instance, I do perverse things like create 600 meg opening books).
A few small things to optimize (I #include all the source files into a single file, and use MS VC++ 6.0 to target PII and higher architecture.)
Not much really.
I have no idea since I don't own a copy of Fritz.
