I'm sure Sergio would be happy. He cannot answer now, cause where he is during the week, he does not have a computer. He just connects weekends, but I can speak in his name. And he will be happy if you add a link to his page.
Have you tried version 0.20. I think it's much stronger than previous. Hash tables works much better now, and move ordering has been improved too. What do you think?

I downloaded the new Averno from the Winboard pages download area but I didn't get to try it yet so I can't give you my impression yet. I like small programs like that that download real fast, thanks.

José,
I seem to have trouble with this new Averno, it makes that chattering sound on my computer like when you have the hashtables turned too high on a program, and without an opening book yet, it's pretty much thinking real hard right off the bat.
Would it be possible to add a command line parameter sometime in the future to allow user adjustment of the hashtable size, or maybe a configuration type of file?

Yes, you are right. I set 28Mb of hash tables by default. I'll make a ini file for next versions. Meanwhile, if you want, I can send you the 0.20 compiled with less HT size. What size is ok for you?

Thanks, I'd like that, most programs I tend to have around 6 or 8 type of area (depending on how the program was made) mostly that low because when playing engine vs engine games I end of needing to keep it lower, so all the programs end up that low.
Sometimes my main email address will just bounce email back at people (I don't know why) so if you cc the email to avoga@chicagonet.net and pgalati@hotmail.com then one of them will always go through.
Thanks José!

Ok, I'll send you it. And, while I have not implemented the ini file, I will compile it with 4 or 5 different hash size and send it to Sergio and Frank for the put it to download.

enviarme a mi un AVERNO con HT menores ( 2, 4 u 8 ), y quiza sea conveniente
una INI file en una futura version.

José,
Thankyou, they both work very well. Neither the 7mb HT or the 14mb HT make any hashtable type of noise at all. I have not tried them against other programs but they are both very quiet playing against me.
I have no idea how much the lower hashtables might have hurt Averno's strength though because I'm a rather weak Chess player so I'm not such a good measuring stick for it's strength, I'm probably close to beating Averno but it has not happened yet and I'm not sure if I can do it.
Thanks again, it works well for me.
Pete
