I'm not a programer so this is a guess. Is it possible that Anmon505 could
have been compiled differently than version Anmon500? I've tried all of the
changes people have reccommended for the ini files but the engine still ceases
about a couple of moves past book. I've gone back to playing Anmon500.
The reason I ask is that I,ve always had a problem running Chessbase products
and up till now I haven't had any problems with winboard. I have an AMD-k6 475
and thought that maybe there might be something in the compiled code that is
ok for Intel machines but Amd machines don't like.
Thanks in advance

Try turning off pondering in Winboard, see Options/General/Ponder Next Move, there were some problems like that in early versions of AnMon, I thought they were solved by now though, maybe not.
