I really like updates, but couldn't it be at a slightly slower pace? And Ulrich, do you need to change the book everytime?available.

Well..Yes, the updates are very fast now..But that's because, they are so many winboard engines now! But some engines I notice have a extremly short update cycle..I really like updates, but couldn't it be at a slightly slower pace? And

It's only an offer. You don't have to download the complete thing each time.I really like updates, but couldn't it be at a slightly slower pace? And Ulrich, do you need to change the book everytime?available.

I was commenting on the comet update cycle not updates in general. But obviously it's better with frequent updates than none at all.Well..Yes, the updates are very fast now..But that's because, they are so many winboard engines now! But some engines I notice have a extremly short update cycle..
I suppose he works very hard with his book..Some programmers do , others don;t..But I don't think 2Mb is not that bad even for those using the slowest modems..
Does Comet have book learning? Perhaps instead of downloading every thing new, just downloading a small learning file like for crafty from version to version would be more efficent?
Well I used to have student access for free using a 33.6 Modem, now I'm using a cable modem, it costs around S$70 or maybe US$50 per month, but unlimitedI was commenting on the comet update cycle not updates in general. I agree, which is why I placed a smiley at the end of the sentence. I don't >pay per minute but by traffic, so the time used for downloading is unimportant.
I'd say keep sending the new books whenever you update them. Like you said, they're optional updates for the person doing the downloads anyhow. It's only an offer. Whenever I have filled some big hole in the book, I append it to the update.
I admit that it would be nicer to have a kind of incremental update here. I'll think about it.

Yes, you may use the same comet.hbk, comet.lbk and comet.sbk files. In contrast to win-dos you have to take care to use small letters for the file names since unix is case-sensitive.I'd say keep sending the new books whenever you update them. I assume that the same opening book(s) for the MS OS Comet also work with the new Linux version of Comet, is that true?
Pete
No book learning (yet) in comet. The comet.lrn is used in early middle-game to save some interesting (hopefully) snapshots of hashtable-entries with large depth, in particular when fail-low cases have been occuring.I was commenting on the comet update cycle not updates in general. Comet do have learning file, but I don't know if it's book and position. It's called comet.lrn and the size is fixed at 641Kb.
