LarsenVB have been running on my machine for a very long time, but when I tried it yesterday I got the same error message quite a few people have experienced. I'll try downloading it again and see if it's a reproducable error ;o). Until then I'll stick to Colchess and send the games as soon as possible. Probably tomorrow morning.
Best wishes...

If others have the same difficulty, I'll just disqualify LarsenVB.
If we are going to run a huge round-robin tournament, the last thing we need is balky, misbehaving programs in the mix.
Anyone know how to get LarsenVB to operate smoothly for /mg 4
???

Just tried to reinstall LarsenVB but to no avail. It's very strange since LarsenVB has appeared in my tournaments without problems. Maybe I've installed or uninstalled something recently that affects this particular program.
Finally someone names a program after you and then it stops working properly ;o). There you go, no justice in this wretched world.
Best wishes...

The games are on my FTP site.
Minimum hardware: 300 MHz Pentium II at G/60 (or scaled to meet that minimum level)
No pondering, one PC.
If longer time controls are used or stronger machines, or pondering on these also are accepted into the calibration data.
The purpose of calibration is to define an approximate ranking at what FICS or ICC would call "Standard" chess.
After the approximate rankings are solidified, I am going to have a round-robin tournmanent in 4 groups.
You can read lots of messages about it.

If others have the same difficulty, I'll just disqualify LarsenVB.
If we are going to run a huge round-robin tournament, the last thing we need is balky, misbehaving programs in the mix.
Anyone know how to get LarsenVB to operate smoothly for /mg 4
???
See WinBoard Forum archive: Fixing LarsenVB by Carmelo Calzerano. I followed his advice and it helped.
As for /mg 4, try adding /-reuse /-reuse2 to the command line. For me, it works (without reuse it didn't).

Hi!
The purpose of calibration is to define an approximate ranking at what FICS or ICC would call "Standard" chess.
What initial ratings you gave to programs?
When using ELOSTAT, I give a starting rating of 2300.
When using ChessBase, it uses some magical guess.
In both cases, the ending numbers come out very close to the same.

I would like to know : is there already a final day set where program authors can release new versions so they can participate in the tournament ?
Several authors are hurriedly making updated versions and testing them ...
I will give a 24 hour notice before the deadline. It won't be long now. As soon as all the groups are definite, then the warning will be issued and the contest will start.

In your tournament, what will you do, if during the 4 games, there are identical games?
What about book learning?

To whom should I send the BoC games? I tried dcorbit@solutoinsiq.com, but it bounced. Am I supposed to upload the games at the ftpsite or?

Are we headed towards some kind of unified SSDF listing? With so many people willing to contribute games we can finally get a gigantic database..Of course, everyone will be using different computer processors, but I don't subscribe to the idea that some engines gain more or less than others from faster processors, so this is fine with me..
But still a uniform Conditions as possible is better..
Things that can be controlled
1)TBs- Either none or All 3,4
2)Opening book- use default specified by programmer..We can do much about learning unless you want to turn it off..

Lastly, what about battle of the crown for Blitz time controls?

Finally someone names a program after you and then it stops working >properly ;o). There you go, no justice in this wretched world.
So when can we see some Larsen ver Larsen games posted here?

Spelled it wrong.
dcorbit@solutionsiq.com
"ions" not "oins"
You can also upload to my ftp site.
The uploads directory is write only, so you won't see that the transfer worked, but it will.

The results of the 4 games count as 4 games.
A program that learns presumably will have some advantage over those that don't.
