Hello Matthias,
hope that nobody started already with Bishop Class, what was allowed since yesterday (Monday morning) so that this version can be included. As you know no updates are allowed, when the tournament already has begun. I will check this tomorrow.
But if noone started I see no problem.
We know that we sqeezed your small, big lion in a relatively brutal group. On the other hand it seems that a lot of people love your engine and want to take part in suffering :-).
Best Regards
Heinz

And it looks like Amateur will miss promoting, but perhaps it was close?
Re BigLion. If you are using the new version, and I am using the old one, that won't work. I don't know if any other testers have started with Bishop, but I can replay any games 2.23i might have played with 2.23m. My comp is at the office, so I can't check till tomorrow.

Hello Will,
thanks, I think because this tourament is new and I gave very short time for deadlines, we can make an exception here. Please replay the games, will not be more than 2 or 3 I think.
But for all other starting in the future please note that we will keep then strictly to the rules.
Regarding Black Bishop I hope that Andreas is not just on holidays. Summertime is not the best to start something like this :-).
Best Regards

Hi Will,
LOL, Will I offer that you replace me, is not that much work :-).
There is a picture of mine in User Gallery. Do I really look like a dictator?
Only at some point I think clear decisions had to be made, before discussing endlessly. What I like more than organizing is playing and seeing interesting tournaments. Be aware, I will always try to delegate a lot of work to all other leaders.

Hi Will (and all other testers here),
Sorry that I could not update earlier. BigLion 2.23m is quite interesting
because he believes a statement Bob Hyatt made : "If your QSearch is
complex enough, it is OK for the main search to be only 1 ply deep" or
something similar in implication.
So frequently more than 90% of BigLon's nodes will be in QSearch. Strange !
This version has not been tested for strength.
Best,
Matthias.

I believe that if it is not tested it is probably worse.
It should be tested first in test suites to see if it does better.
I also believe that it is not a good idea to have frequently more than 90% of nodes as qnodes.
complex qsearch does not mean big qsearch and it can have also more pruning rules.

Hello Matthias
Thanks for the new version of Bigion on your website, I downloaded it to play some games against my program.
One game surprised me, BigLion was beating me heavily at least 3 pawns up but if I recall only about 5 seconds or so on the clock when Biglion resigned ?
1:time 391
1:otim 988
1:usermove c3d5
All bugs still present.

Can't say I have noticed any obvious bugs, I have played 76 games now, seems very stable.
I would say the low nodes/sec is what is hurting the strengh, the chess knowledge looks OK but is simply being outsearched by 2 or 3 ply.

Thanks again
Regards Geoff

*1*white resigns detected...
I guess Zeitnot is German for no time left ? A few tweaks to your time management code to move a little faster at the end of a game and Biglion would have won that game easily.

Thanks, Geoff.
76 games ? Sounds like bullet games ;).
Like all other lions, BigLion hates bullets .
BigLion indeed resigns if in time trouble (Zeitnot). That is why he hates
time controls with both unknown move count and (almost) zero increment.
Best,
Matthias.
