This is a really cool game. Black sacrifices a queen and a pawn against three
minor pieces, but gets a promising attack in compensation. Well worth a look.
It would be interesting if some strong chess player could analyse this game and
tell us whether blacks sacrifice was really sound.
I am pleased to see that Terra, one of my personal computer chess heroes, is
doing remarkably well so far in the tournament. It has already faced Zappa and
Fruit, arguably the two strongest participants in the tournament, but still has
an impressive 4.5/5 score. I am less pleased to see that my own engine is
unfortunate and has to face the fearsome Terra in the next round.

I am pleased to see that Terra, one of my personal computer chess heroes, is
doing remarkably well so far in the tournament. It has already faced Zappa and

an impressive 4.5/5 score. I am less pleased to see that my own engine is
unfortunate and has to face the fearsome Terra in the next round.

I wish that my engine will be also unlucky to get 5/5
There are cases when it happens but unfortunately it does not happen often
In case it wasn't clear, I didn't mean to complain about my own engine's results
so far, of course. Gothmog has been lucky so far, but I'm sure the score will
look less impressive when it has played Movei, Terra, Zappa, Fruit, Amateur and
the numerous other favorites. Class B is really tough, and there are no easy
opponents.
But if you look at the games and the opponents, and not just the results,
there is no doubt that Terra's performance is by far the most impressive so
far in Class B.
It doesn't happen often to any of us, for obvious statistical reasons.
Programs are most often matched against programs of similar strength, which
makes a 5/5 result is rather unlikely. Results like this will only happen
on a regular basis if your program is much stronger than all other programs
in the known universe, or if it is in a phase of very rapid improvement.
Neither of these is the case for Gothmog. I promise, it's luck will soon
end.

"it's luck"?? What's an embarrassing spelling mistake. :-(
I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry. I am beginning to hate my own
engine, and almost want to see it lose (especially against engines which I
happen to like for some reason, and Terra is such an engine). On the other
hand, this looks like a quite interesting game. Yet another example that
Zappa and Gothmog are right, I think: The queen is a really strong piece!
