The problem is that we wanted to release WinBoard and xboard together, but that I could not put together an executable package for xboard, as I had no Linux. But the person who was working on putting together a nice release, including scripts and such, is currently ill. This has delayed the release. In the mean time I was able to install an Ubuntu Linux and at least do the compilation to make an xboard executable.
So now I am facing the dilemma: should I delay further to wait for the more elaborate, and no doubt much nicer executable package than I could improvise with my lack of Linux experience, or should we just release what I have now waiting on my website? Perhaps we should go for the last option; I can make a note with the Linux link that this is a temporary release, and that it will be replaced with a more elaborate one later. The xboard executable will be exactly the same anyway.
