[OT] Forum Threads

Postby Dan Honeycutt » 21 Oct 2004, 18:44

I come to like the new forum software better and better, but I still miss the lack of sub-thread organization provided by the old software. I noticed in particular the attack table thread had become particularly unwieldy. What started as attack tables branched off into move generation, sorting, futility pruning and you-name-it all in one long, linear thread.

I would encourage people to stay a little more on-topic with respect to the original thread. When topic A branches off into topic B (as it naturally will), start a new thread. That way we can impart a little better organization to the threads ourselves.

Thank you! I agree the thread style has its advantages. OTOH the new software offers a lot of other features the other software doesn't.

If necessary the moderators can split a thread into different sub-threads. In this case I would ask for some suggestions which messages belong to which new thread.

Hi Volker:

I don't think the moderators should need to be bothered. We are all accustomed to hitting "reply" when we have something to add to an existing post. With the new software we just need to think - should this be "post reply" or "new topic". It will take some getting used to - old habits take a while to change.
