scorpio and bookthinker

Postby Daniel Shawul » 25 Aug 2005, 17:16

Hello,
i have problem running scorpio with bookthinker.
I don't know how book thinker does his job, but i think
it must work if winboard protocol is implemented correctly.
And i don't think i made a mistake in implementing the winboard protocol.
If somebody has scorpio working with scorpio, i would appreciate it
if he tells me how to do it.
best

Hi Daniel,

Please mail me precisely what is wrong for you and I will help
you, as I have a working Scorpio/BookThinker here and I also have
some knowledge about certain seldom things which can happen with some
engines and Bookthinker ;-)
(remember the too fast first move with DanChess once?)
I have a solution to all possible problems regarding this.

Regards,
Guenther

Hi Gunther
It sometimes doesn't start games after bookthinker
finshed making all the book moves. This happened exactly after
i added egbbs. I thought the reason could be that scorpio is taking a lot of time to load these egbbs. Leo has some games which scorpio lost on time because of this problem. I will send you the games later.
BTW this one is not because of "protocol 1" command needed for bookthinker.

Well if this happens in ponder on games I can't help you
probably. Your first message about the problem was a bit unclear,
so I thought you have a problem to play with bookthinker at all.
I guess the mail I have sent you is quite meaningless then.

I have only played a few games with Scorpio 1.5 so far, but
AFAIK earlier versions lost on time from time to time,
which is no prob for all other programs using BookThinker,
so I guess the time prob was in Scorpio?
I will not be able to reproduce ponder on problems, as I have
no capable machines for such tests, sorry.

Guenther

Hello Guenther:
Of what I understood from your comments to Daniel you have a lot experience solving problems related with Bookthinker and winboard engines without opening book.
I had experienced some engines have a kind of incompatibility with BookThinker, for example announcing mate at the first move out of Book Thinker book.
I will try to find again which are this engines and I will revert to you with their names.
Best,
Pablo Urzua

PS: By the way Scorpio work fine with BookThinker in my PC.
