Clarabit doesn't use its books

Postby Volker Pittlik » 09 Jun 2008, 04:11

I'm trying to run Clarabit using xboard and polyglot. The two book file coming with the program are in the same directory. OwnBook is enabled in the .ini and according to the log file it is loaded:

Code: Select all
ENGINE Book loaded and enabled.

However, the engine starts calculating from the first move on. System is a 64-bit Linux (Kernel 2.6.24). Ofcourse I can use a polyglot book but I'd prefer the book delivered with the engine. Any hints?

Hi Volker !

Why not using Clarabit in winboard mode ?

You will need to add something like this in the command line :

hash 128 phash 16 egbbdir c:\egbb\ egbbcache 32

It should work as well in UCI mode though I did not try it lately.

The main reason is I want to "test the tests" in the long run. Therefore I want to use Clarabit with Polyglot to enable it to run testsuites. (Before someone else suggests it: No, I don't want to use another GUI. And no, that one DOES NOT work in Linux!)

I know, but there is no difference. I starts calculating from the first move on. Can you control if it somehow "touches" the book files (somehow changing them)?

Yes, it was (I got one e-mail). I'll just wait and see if you find something out. Until then I can use a polyglot book if necessary.

There are some starnge characters in the polyglot log:

Code: Select all
ENGINE Clarabit 1.00 by Salvador Pallares Bejarano, Spain.
< ENGINE Compilation: Feb  9 2008

There are two other engine where the same strange characters occur and they both don't work. Maybe the problems are somehow related.

Ok Volker I have just checked it and book is not working in x64 linux executable. I will trace the problem and fix it in next release.

The strange characters you see in polyglot's log are special code to print in colours in console mode, so you can ignore them as they wont cause any damage.

Thanks for the bug.
regards.
