Engine Web Pages

Postby Vegan » 21 Jul 2008, 18:21

When doing some testing for engines that use tablebases, I noted not many have a home page. In my list of tablebase engines, I put links for 3 known hosts, and if anyone knows of others I will add them there.

I have been testing engines in Arena with 5 piece tablebases first, before I move on to testing with 6 pieces.

I probably have about 35 engines using tablebases, I did not bother downloading ones that don't use them.

Problem is that it has never been shown conclusively that engines get any better by using EGTBs.

Well considering the games I see watching engines fight it out, tablebases don't come into play often.

If time controls were much longer tablebases might be more of benefit, assuming the opening book was of decent quality (most are garbage).

When large numbers of game between equal engines are played, tablebases will become more frequently used as the current number of pieces is set at 6 until computers are a tad faster and disks a tad bigger can we contemplate 7 pieces.
