Support for Omega Chess

Postby beneficii » 07 May 2010, 16:38

I have added support for Omega Chess to Winboard, which is a chess variant with more information that can be found here:

http://www.omegachess.com

Here is the source (based on the latest Winboard release):

I thought it was interesting enough to add this as a new variant. I have done thorough testing and the adding of the variant doesn't seem to break anything in the normal variant.

One thing I'm wanting to do is create a somewhat smart engine to play this, but of course not as much is known about this game as normal chess.

EDIT: What would people advise that I do in that regard?

Omega Chess is an interesting variant, and one of the more well-known variants, but it is also a commercial variant. So the first question that comes to mind is: "Is this allowed, or would it be an infringement on some patent?".
