OT: formula to set maximum of games in a row with opponent

Postby Roman Hartmann » 09 Mar 2006, 13:05

This morning I noticed that one particular player was playing my engine for several games in a row.
Then I had a look at the games I get emailed from ICC and saw that he (or she) was playing my engine for several hours already. He lost hundreds of bullet games and drawed a few of them. Obviously he can't stop playing for some reason.

I don't want to baby anyone, but playing more than 4 hours in a row on a chess server can't be healthy ...

Is there a way to set a formula that enables a player to not play more than 20 games or so in a row. I had a look at the help files on ICC and googled also but couldn't find anything. I'm using Winboard/Polyglot btw.

best regards
Roman

PS: I can only recommend Winboard/Polyglot for online play. Once it's setup properly, it works really great.

If you wish to limit the number of consecutive games that your engine will play against any opponent, you have to put two additional parameters in the command line through which you launch winboard :

-zp this indicates that you will use the so-called "zippy" commands
-zippyMaxGames int where "int" has to be replaced by the number of maximum consecutive games

example :
Code: Select all
WinBoard -zp -ics -icshost chessclub.com -fcp GNUChess -icshelper timestamp -zippyMaxGames 4

All this and a lot of other "zippy" commands can be found in Tim Mann's winboard documentations.

you can add also this parameter :
-zippyReplayTimeout=60

So that he will have to wait at least one minute if he wants to challenge you again.
