Google ads removed

Due to lack of clicks I have removed the Google ads.

As you can notice right now Google has nothing to do with the low speed of the forum. I'm still searching for a new hoster. Possibly this site is going to move at the end of the coming week.

Hi,

I think all its better to read without Google. Commercial engine programmers should have a chance to place a logo on amateurchess webpages / fora. I think this can be interesting in the next times.

Of course the administrator should get a little bit for it or can create prizes for the users from a webpage / forum.

No better idea, possible that the idea isn't good (not longer thinking about it).

I would prefer if they would write here instead of register only :-) (yes there are some, you can't see them before they have written something).

This forum is a just a hobby for me. I thought the google-ads could pay the costs for the domain but they didn't.

Almost every hobby costs money. Running a forum is much cheaper than playing golf or having a plane of my own. OTOH it is also fun just to have this hobby. So I pay for it.

Hi,

I think its absolutly OK to get money for hosting of the "bigger" amateur webpages. I try the same many years for own things without to have interest to make profit with it. In seven years two users send me money for hosting. But thousends of persons used it :-) But its OK, I had many fun with this work.

The goole idea was not bad but unfortunately without to hit a target (glaube hit a target hei?t Ziel erreichen).

What you will do with your own webpage?
Means which topic of information do you have in your brain?

A long time I am thinking also about my own older domain. At the moment a little tourney page. After all the work in the latest year I don't have a big motivation to create again an interesting webpage to computerchess.

I am sure you have Linux in your brain :-)

Nothing very special. The old stuff will be restored - possibly without PGN. There have been interest for the old articles by Franck Zibi, Roland Pfister and all the others. They have been accessed almost daily. Therefore I think they should be back online.

I hope nobody will get offended but the average Linux user has much better technical understanding than the average user of Wondows. (Of course most users of this forum are above the average.)

Therefore special instructions for them how to play chess on the computer are not necessary IMO. There is Xboard, Scid and a lot of engines. Many of them (even the strongest ones) are coming with source code. What else is really needed to play chess at the computer?

I read the threads about the newest Rybka/Shredder/Hiarcs with a little amusement. Where are the players who beat these engines? (Not in their living room or on a server with absurd time controls or boring playing style - just on a board where everyone can see it!)

I often read these engines are necessary for analysis. Often there are examples where engine X finds something different than engine Y. OK, but where are the results of these sophisticated analyses? Does a well written chess book (by Seirawan for example) not enhance my understanding of chess much better than all the thousands lines the engines generate?

But I don't really care. I have my view on this hobby others have theirs. As long as I'm not forced to share their view everything is perfect for me.

Hi,

interesting to read.
Very good understandings from my site.
Thinking on same things.

Collect my favour engines should be enough material to make interesting things around computerchess (analyses, self play, engine test and so one).

At the moment I am not sure to stop my ATL-4
or to make a break. I update the webpage daily with little changes but I have complete other things in my brain.

I have all results and stats, means that I have the personal results I wish me with ATL-4.

Have fun to play own games, to read a good chess book or to use engines I like (Glaurung is my TOP engine favour number 1 so far) for analyzes.

Since two years I have again more interest to collect and to replay games from stronger chess players. Read more GM news on different pages.

Chess is really a great hobby.
So many interesting possibilities we have.
