Crafty 21.1 at craftychess.com

Postby juan dela cruz » 09 Dec 2006, 20:31

The latest CCRL tournament includes a newer version of Crafty -Crafty 21.1. I hadn't had any news about it and found the site at
http://www.craftychess.com/. I presume that this is a Peter Skinner version the fact that it linked to his old un-updated site as well as the file descriptions. Since it is an open source chess engine as stated, could anyone provide me with a link for the actual source files of this version since it's not include on Bob Hyatt's site. I'm studying the historical changes of the Crafty engines as a hobby (as well as the other open sources).

This version can also save a crafty personality file (cpf) using an example commandline,"personality save crafty" to have a crafty.cpf result. But it only crashes the engine when used, even if you typed "load crafty personality" in the crafty.rc file. Has anybody successfully used an edited version of the cpf file? Robert Jujrevic uses these files in his own version to use a different crafty personality (but his files are secretly encrypted for personal use) and probably only works on his version. Mike Byrne however uses GM books for crafty personalities.

I hope that some good Samaritan could enlighten me on this subject.

Crafty 21.1 has not officially been released (and might never be), so I'm surprised you found a download link for it.

Regards, Graham.

Graham,

Thanks for the info. My search engine seems to be cooperative these days while researching about the Crafty engine.

It's surprising too that Crafty Cito v2 ( another Crafty development of Bryan Hoffman) was officially released (and accepted) but not this one. I guess we'll just treat it as a "public" release as the site owner stated.

BTW, Robert Jurjevic (another Crafty hotshot) also has a newly released Crafty version on his site as I mentioned together with his new Winboard modifications:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.jur ... ss/Crafty/

Maybe some people may be interested to test his new files there.
