Swiss Time Gradient (STG)

Postby Matthias Gemuh » 09 Feb 2007, 17:24

Hi all,
in my private swiss tournament with 370 engines (several versions included for some engines), the games become slower from round to round. They also speed up from top to bottom of table in each round.
There are 37 rounds to play.
This feature is called "Swiss Time Gradient (STG)" in ChessGUI.

How it works:
1) All engines get some time control (e.g. 5 min/game + 5 sec/move).
2) Extra time comes from STG (e.g. 25 min/game + 55 sec/move).
The STG is scaled up from zero in round 1 to maximum in last round.
The STG is also scaled down in each round from interpolated maximum at
top of table to zero at bottom.

Matthias.
