How to run Marvin?

Postby H.G.Muller » 26 May 2007, 14:21

I tried to download Marvin, but the home page indicated at WBEC doesn't seem to exist anymore. Some Googling got me a .rar archive of Marvin, but when I unpacked it, it does not seem to contain a .exe. There was a 2.2MB file called Marvin without an extension, and my guess is that this is a Linux executable. Since I run under Windows, that is no good to me.

Does anyone know where I could obtain a Windows version of Marvin, or how I can run the version I have?

I'll attach my Marvin folder in the CCRL Public forum for you.

Yeah, Marvin was a hard opponent for the young Homer. I'll remember on great games. :-P It's a good choice for a opponent, but to weak for Joker i guess.

Best,
Daniel

Indeed, Marvin scored only 17.5% against Joker 1.1.05 in a 5+0 Nunn match. Normally I don't like to have engines in my counlets that score outside the range 25%-75%. I was nevertheless interested how Joker would do against all the engines that it will meet in the CCRL qualifier.

OBender 2.11.04 seems buggy, though: In 6 games it crashed once after castling, and exceeds time by as much as 70% in 5+0 games.

Counter 0.2 seems to crash on promotion.

FluxII 0.9 does not want to run at all. Even when I click the executable that comes in the download package, it refuses to start without any error messages.

[edit]It seems the problem with Counter 0.2 can be solved by PromoteWorkAround = true in the [polyglot] section.

Obender is sick, though, it seems to ignore the time control alltogether, and happily thinks long when its flag fell minutes ago. I am not sure if this is because I am running on a dual core.
