Hi all :)

Here Counter 0.2 (UCI engine) loses every game on time with 40 moves in x minutes time controls.

I have only tested it under Winboard + polyglot.

- Does it lose on time as well under other GUIs with 40/x time control ?

- Does anybody have the email address of the author ?

Runs without any problems under Chessbase GUIs.

Hi Graham :)

Thanks for the information, then this one does not like polyglot...

And no email address to report the problem ?

I tried Counter + polyglot under Arena 1.99b3, and it does not lose on time.

Polyglot is not the problem, this engine hates Winboard

How strange !

Let's add I am suing Winboard 4.2.7_x (Scotti).

Hi Olivier,

Don't worry it is the same, as with Monarch and early ChessTiger
according to a quick test I ran after I saw your post.
(Note that even the new ChessTiger can overstep the time
in x/y time controls but only if x is small. It never happens anymore
here in 15min/40)
It simply oversteps time by a few milli to centi seconds and well
we know already that CB GUIs and Arena don't care much,
if an engine oversteps the time by a little ;-)

Best regards,
Guenther

HI Guenther :)

I am not sure this is the same case as Monarch.

When playing under Arena, Counter reaches the 40th move without problem. I mean, it is not short on time and does not need to hurry up and play several moves in less than one second.

Under Winboard it seems that it simply forgets to play the 40th move.
