Version 1.0 beta 2
-------------------
1. Added winboard protocol 2 support.
2. Removed Polish command line interface.
3. Added resign function.
4. New logo.
Instructions:
-------------
Joanna 2002 doesn't need any command line
options to run, just install as a standard
winboard engine. It doesn't have an opening
book, but 'force & go' has been implemented
so you should be able to use 'bookthinker'
or a book from your chess interface if you
wish.
Info:
-----
I've been wanting to convert Joanna 2002 to winboard
for ages, but the fact that the source is entirely
written/commented in Polish made the task somewhat
daunting. After many hours studying the program (with
online translator in hand) to understand the functions
and get the overall flow of the program, I managed to
complete it.
Joanna 2002 was released in, you guessed it, 2002,
to compete in the Polish computer chess championships,
but the original program was written a lot further
back... 1992, at Warsaw University in fact, so I think
it is also of historic interest in the history of computer
chess.
It's not a strong chess engine - around Mscp strength,
but it knows all the rules, and plays with it's own
style. An entertaining program for a human to play against.
The program will be undoubtedly be updated from time to time,
as bugs are found and fixed. Just a symptom of my amateur
programming I'm afraid. Anyway have fun with it.
