Why not combione SmallTalk and General?

Postby Joachim Rang » 27 Sep 2004, 13:18

Hi Volker,

as some already mentioned in the old board too many sections are confusing. I think with the current density of posts 4 sections are enough, so I'd combine General and SmallTalk since I fail to see the need to differentiate between these things. What do you and others think?

regards Joachim

I do not deny to make changes but maybe we should wait some days until there are more messages.

Possibly I'm going to change the name of the "General" forum to "Winboard/Xboard" because it is the core of this whole board. I wouldn't like to mix that with other topics.

Maybe a combination of "Related Software" and "Smalltalk" is a better solution.

Regards

Volker

Posting by subject types "software-general- tournys etc".
Is good idea due to the large number of posts that are made, a method to index is very good idea..

One man's thoughts on it.

There is no Smalltalk here!

Postby Greg Simpson » 05 Oct 2004, 08:08

I was surprised to see a Smalltalk section in the new forum, since most engines seem to be written in C or Delfi. Looking around, you seem to have meant small talk instead. It is really quite wrong to combine "small" and "talk" into one word if you mean casual discussion and not the computer language. If you don't combine the sections, perhaps you could rename this one?

I have enjoyed lurking around the Winboard Form for the last couple of months, and I thank Volker for making it available.

I still think that you should remove Smalltalk completely.
Smalltalk will appear hear and there and it is no big deal to miss it.

Better rename "general" to "Winboard" as you suggested and also include "Related Software" in that.

Voila - one forum is gone!

OK, maybe you are right. I'm going to create a poll soon.
