Mscp 1.6a update

Postby Jim Ablett » 03 Mar 2005, 21:26

This program is an unofficial enhancement of the original Mscp 1.4 source code by Marcel van Kervinck,
distributed with his kind permission. These enhancements may or may not find their way into the official
Mscp at a later stage.

Changes:

1.6a
--------------------------------
1. Made small changes to evaluation.
2. Increased hash size to 64mb.
3. Adjustments to extensions
4. Using gambit book again.
(plays stronger with this one)
5. Adjustments to a.g.m (agressive time management).
6. Pawn endgame piece table adjustments.

Available from my homepage.

Jim.

Is there any way for users to adjust hash size? 64mb is too much for me. :-)

Hello David,

Thanks for your interest in Mscp. Pablo Urzua emailed
me asking for a 16mb hash version, so I compiled one.

Email me and I'll send it to you. (That goes for anyone else too).
Please state if you want it compiled with SSE (P3/Athlon) or SSE2(P4) instructions, or universal version.

I really want to put a configurable hash into Mscp, but
it's going to be difficult without a complete re-write (the hash
and opening book share the same memory.) so I've put it
on hold for now while I concentrate on making it stronger.

I've been testing Mscp 1.6a (64mb hash version) in 20 minute games against Armageddon and it seems equal to,
or maybe perhaps slightly stonger.

Regards
Jim.

No need to email now, I've just updated my
homepage - you can now download 16mb hash version
from there.

Hello Fernando,
Sorry about that. I've made a small bugfix to mscp, but
I have been having difficulty uploading to my server -
al fixed now.

Found and fixed a bug in pawn piece square tables
that weakened playing white side.

Please re-download - same version number.

Regards,
Jim.

Thanks Jim

Mscp is one of the engines i'm using to test against the current state of my new engine project. I would prefer a Mscp with 32 mb hash for SSE (P3/Athlon), but i can live with 16mb. :-)

Hello David,

You've probably got your wish, I just checked
and the 16mb version's memory footprint is a lot
more than 16mb and so is the 64mb version (about 128!).

I'll post a fixed version later tonight.

Jim.
