Thank you. This one seems to work all right even if UCI.

a question about zappa memory usage

Postby GenoM » 09 Mar 2005, 20:03

yes it works now but it seems that Zappa gets about 70000 kb of memory on my PC - and i can't find the way to adjust this neither under WB or UCI mode
any help will be appreciated:-)
thanks in advance

On my PC I installed Zappa under Arena as an UCI engine. The main settings are:

hash 32 M
phash and khash 8 MB each
EGTB cache 4 MB (I use all 3- and 4-man EGTB's and KRPKR)

With these settings Zappa uses about 54 MB in total (shown by Win2k Task Manager).
If I decrease hash to 16 MB, then 38 MB is used, as expected.

Under WinBoard I use the same settings in the ini file, and Zappa uses the same amount of memory.

I have nothing better to suggest but checking the above memory allocation settings. Also, if you use all 5-man EGTB's, Zappa may allocate a bigger amount of memory for indices and decompression tables.

thanks Gabor
in my case TaskInfo2000 is the program used to get values of used memory
What my problem is - I am changing values of hashtables in ini-file but Zappa gets the same Total memory (under Arena as WB and UCI too) no matter what I wrote in ini-file (about 70000 kb as I wrote)
Is that a problem of Zappa or its a problem of Arena? How do you think? Is there a way to adjust this parameter?

Hi,
Zappa installed as Winboard engine under arena 1.1 with the following zappa.ini

usetb 1
tbcache 8M
tbpath: e:\nalimov
hash 128M
khash 4M
phash 4M
threads 1
scorepov 1
kibitz 3
book public.zbook

uses 144 MB. When I change the hash value to 64M Zappa uses 80 MB. In both cases the menory usage is as specified.
The hash size for all UCI engines can be set to the same value in the Arena GUI.
Regards Dieter
