Hello

Just saying thanks to Volker for setting up this new forum, it looks very nice, the phpBB forum software is excellent for the cost I would say :D

Question for Volker, how much maintenance effort do you think this board will need now you have got it up and running nicely ? Or maybe is it a little too early to say yet ?
I was wondering in relation to the problems over on CCC. I think myself CCC should adopt something like this forum software, it looks much more modern and would hopefully not take vast efforts to keep it up and running ?

Regards Geoff

I have to learn a bit more about modifying the styles and php in general. I can use that knowledge elsewhere too so it does not count.

The normal maintenance (backup the database and so on) takes less than 10 minutes daily. I can't estimate how much time will be needed if trolls occur, but the admin panel looks more powerful than the old one. 8)

The problem of the forum is the server load. Most ISPs therefore denied to host it except I rent a server of my own from them what is far to expensive. I hope this will not be a problem in the future. At the moment I pay less than 50 $ per year.

The problem at CCC seems to be that they count their time. I run this forum for fun therefore my time does not increase the costs.

Regards

Volker

Long may you continue to have fun doing this! In my experience, once the fun factor goes and something becomes a chore, then you're in trouble which will be bad for us!
