Hi Volker:

Have you given thought to the phpbb mobythreads:

http://www.mobythreads.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=8

would seem to add the feature that many of us miss from the old software.

Best

Yes I'm aware of that. As I wrote in the past the thread view is what I'm most missing in the new forum software. However, if I understand everything what is written in the readme (and so on) files of the mobythread mod it is recommended to use this mod from the beginning of a forum.

This mobythread mod alters the database structure of the forum. Because it does not know which message is the "father" of another one all old messages would still appear in the old flat style. In addition this mod is not recommended yet in the phpbb mod database. I hope it will be in the future. Therefore I'm a bit careful to implement it.

There is something else to consider. The old forum was running for about 5 years. It will be deleted in April. There is some important stuff in there what is worth to be saved. The hoster of the old forum (Parsimony) announced recently that they are going to offer some scripts which will enable me to import the mesages from the old forum into this one.

Because I think they will expect the standard structure of the database to import the messages it is not a good idea to change the structure before the import has been done. Therefore I kindly ask for your patience for the right time to implement this modification (although I would like to have it).

Regards

Volker

Hi Volker:

You have my patience. We often spend so much time talking about what we want that we neglect to mention what we have. The forum is excellent.
