Guenther Simon has retired as moderator of this forum. Guenther joined the moderator team in the end of 2004 when this forum was "under attack" and I left for holiday. Thank you very much for you effort Guenther!
--- Some thoughts in general ---
Although his engangement has been limited up to end of february the end of his engagement now is somehow related to an unpleasant thread which appeared here some days ago. To cut a long story short: the allegation of "trolling" is simply absurd. This allegation only shows the accusant has no idea what trolling means (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll).
Maybe this is the right time to recall some facts about this forum. At the times this forum was founded X/Winboard was the only available free GUI for chess engines. Therefore the name "Winboard Forum" does not mean this is a forum for Winboard exclusively. Far from it! Especially discussion about other free GUIs and UCI related discussion have been and are still welcome here. However, there is a special relation to Winboard as an open source project. Therefore exchange of information is more appreciated here as to learn what a cool guy you are / what revolutionary idea you have (especially when the latter becomes repetitive). If someone thinks he absolutely can't agree with the "open source spirit" or that X/Winboard is for whatever reason crap in general, he might also think about if this forum is really the right place for him.
I hope one characteristic of this forum is its special "ambience". I hope we can dicuss here in mutual respect (at least most of the times ). From my point of view this works very well most of the time and usually the moderators have nothing to do at all. However, over the years experience has shown that if there is a "clown" among the users strict moderation is the best way to keep this forum usable.
Regards
Volker
