Diablo 0.1

Postby Marcus Prewarski » 16 Mar 2005, 05:48

I put my new engine up on my website, source code is available as well. It only supports UCI and has no opening book yet.

Here is a version that compiles equally well under native Windows, and also corrects one or two bugs:

Will do. Looks really strong, at first glance.

I resolved the firewall issues and picked up your changes, thanks.

Those results look nice, but a bit too good. I don't think it is that strong. Tactically it an improvement over DrunkeMaster but positionally it is probably a bit weaker. I think after more games it will drop a bit.

I think it may drop off a bit, but in any case, it looks pretty strong.

The search is fast and deep, and it plays well with tough opponents. For not having a book, I think it did remarkably well. Of course, a few games like that does not say much. But I think it will be in the neighborhood of Ufim, when all is said and done, and Ufim is pretty strong.

The most important bug I solved was found by adding arguments to your function declarations in the header file. One function call was supposed to pass a move as an argument, but it was missing. Hence, the actual function would just pick up some junk off the stack. Probably, that was a huge penalty in correctness (though I can't say for sure).

Cool, thanks for logos Jim and Patrick.

Dan thanks again for the bug fixes. I will add your changes and release a new version sometime next week, I will be out of town for the rest of this one. Also I really need to add a few things like basic draw detection.

Go to Engines->Manage->UCI

Then I think you need to check the common hash table size and set the value there. At least it works for me.

Hi Marcus

Thanks, I knew I was missing something obvious :D. I was looking at the tab General | Books | Special | Information, I had forgotten all about the other Common UCI tab.

Just started some blitz games now, it will be interesting to see how it gets on.

Hi Marcus,

That photo on your website gives me the chills. Quite foreboding.

Hi Norm,

I see it as beautiful more than foreboding. The kind of thing that makes one want to hop on a plane travel half way around the world then hop on a boat and travel another 150Km out in the Indian Ocean. Of course that kind of beauty usually has risks, like a shallow coral reef and a section out in front called "the surgeon's table" where the reef can go dry. The islands in the area are inhabited by some of the more primitive people left today and I often wonder what happened to then after the tsunami. I guess I include that photo because it represents a very happy time in my life.
