Any solution without deinstalling/installing? How can that happen? It worked well for months!

Did you recently re-install your operating system?

You have to run Gandalf once in the Chesspartner GUI before trying to use it in Winboard. Once you do that, everything is good.

That is a possible explanation. I don't remeber when it was put it may interferewith the Gandalf installation. I'm going to reinstall it.

Now it becomes clearer. I deinstalled and reinstalled the engine but I still get the same error. Now I remember what happend:

Before installing Linux on another partion of my harddrive I made a backup of the Windows partion of my wife's computer. During the installation process Windows and Fedora heavily disagreed how a master boot record of a harddrive should look like. IIRC I lost all data in the Windows partiton and restored them after Linux was installed.

What I can see now: usually I not log in as administrator on my computer but as normal user. (The deinstallation/installation has been made as administrator of course). Now Gandalf works in CP interface. But when I start as normal user I have to register again. This works fine but when exiting the program it complains that it can't write to the registry.

I had already a look inside the registry. I looks as if the old values haven't been removed while the deinstallation. I'll try again and delete the registry entries manually. If that doesn't work I'll contact Lokasoft's customer support.

That + reinstalling helped. It works again.
