Usage of ZPTS - an example with Fruit
Posted: 17 Oct 2004, 14:17The following are the results of (beta) Fruit X from 3 comparative runs of ZPTS with 3 min per position on an Athlon XP 2400+.
vseg means with nullmove verification search on only during endgame (default of Fruit)
vsalw means with nullmove verification search always on
vsnvr means with no verification search (never, i.e. plain nullmove without verification)
One can see that the results of ZPTS are sensitive to the verification search settings, and conversely it is obvious that results of ZPTS can give an indication on how well an engine is able to deal with Zugzwang.
Rated time is the sum of all solution times plus 180 for an unsolved position.
I think 3 min per position is reasonable for ZPTS, because it roughly corresponds to tourney time controls. Furthermore I have already observed that some positions have only been solved after more than 60 or even 120 secs. It is not a 0 seconds or never affair...
