4. The executable runs on processors with SSE2 instruction support only
(Pentium 4, Athlon 64, Opteron, and Pentium M).

Das heisst:

Ich frage mich manchmal, wieso Releasenotes, Readmes usw. einfach nicht gelesen werden.

Yes, take heed: Zappa 0.80b does NOT run on "normal" Athlons :( . I tried running it on my Athlon 2600+ notebook: no way.

BTW, first impressions are quite favourable. Zappa plays original chess, quite tactical and with lots of strange extensions :? However, it gets the job done most of the time.

Have to tell you though that my own engine zapped Zappa niftily in the very first game they played (both as WB engines -- Zappa apparently goes fritz when in UCI mode). I sort of liked move 30...Bb4! that clinched the issue:

What can I say, kingsafety still sucks ;) If it has problems in UCI by all means lets try to fix them, however. I attached the 'b' for a reason . . I really expect to fix quite a few bugs over the next few weeks.

No, no, no... I have only respect for Zappa; it's a superb and highly original piece of software. I have no idea what you've done with it, but it certainly plays chess.

I tried it on an Intel dual in UCI mode -- it didn't run properly. I set it up as UCI under the Fritz GUI but it crashed when I tried the Marathon tactics test. It crashed too when set up as a WB engine too, with 2 threads... Therefore I've been using as single with no glitches.

Zappa is currently leading against my engine 5-4 and is certainly more than 1610 can swallow, at least for the time being

King safety is an issue though, as you duly remarked (1610 diced it up soundly a couple of times). Still, my engine is a punching bag at times too, so I'd better keep quiet.

Thanks.

Hallo Volker
Zappa l?uft auch auf meinem P4 nicht unter
Arena, weder als WB noch als UCI.

That's strange, your P4 must be one of the firstcomers... Runs on my dual Xeons as a single thread. No problems whatsoever. The new P4 mobile is fine for Zappa as well.

Regards.
