X-FEN converter

PostPosted: 19 Jul 2005, 19:49

Hello,

today I?ve written a small command-line utility ?X2FEN960?, which converts all FEN-strings in EPD-files or PGN-files (within the tags [FEN "....."]) from the X-FEN format to the new FEN960-format (as I call it) used by the new Shredder-GUIs (ShredderClassic 1.3, Shredder 9.1).

If anybody is interested in this tool, I would like to make it available to the public - maybe the best place would be Dann Corbits download-site, if he doesn?t object!?

Regards,
Franz.

Franz.

Hello Franz,

I see that you are slumming. You obviously have too much time on your hands and have decided to do some non-Chest UCI and non-EPD Util programming.

Thanks very much for informing us disadvantaged non-German speakers about the updates to EPD Util (which were supposed to have stopped but are continuing). I think I will just visit the site and download the file at intervals.

You treat your fans disgracefully.

:(

I shall never recover.

:)

Unless of course there is a Chest version 5 and EPD Util version 3 in the works!

Alas, development has stopped.......hmmmmmm?

Later.

Hi Roger,

"Slumming"? What a language is that? Jamaica-English?
(I didn?t even find it in my internet dictionary ...)

Correct - I?ve too much time and too much money!

Oh, really? Well, I?m sooo sorry about it ...

Yes, definitely!
I?m too old now for working any longer - maybe I?ll come to Jamaica and enjoy the rest of my life ... :D

Franz.

There?s now an update (ver.1.1) for this X-FEN-converter available - same link:
http://cap.connx.com/cap/chess-utils/xfen/X2FEN960.zip

I?ve included a short ?Readme? and an EPD-file for testing, and the program now has an option ?/c? (?compatibility mode?), which uses the standard letters "KQkq" for the castling notation in classical chess positions (i.e. where the rooks are on a/h-files and the king on the e-file), so that such positions could also be used by chess-GUIs or engines, which do not support FRC/Chess960.

Regards,
Franz.

Hi,

I?ve again enhanced my FEN960 tool - now it includes also a position generator for all Chess960 positions: it?s possible to get a single position (with a special FRC number), a sorted list within any given range, or even a wanted number of randomized positions.

It?s now called ?FEN960? and can be downloaded from my new own download site:
http://www.geocities.com/fhub55/chess/

Here you?ll find also my recent ChestUCI-database and the last version of ?EPDUtil?.

Regards,
Franz.
