Hi Everyone,
This is my first post to the winboard forum. Below is an email that I recieved about RomiChess 2c not working in the fritz 8 gui and I have no idea what is going on here, since I do not own Fritz8 or Chess Base. I really would like to help Victor out, so, does anyone have a clue about his problem? Has anyone else had a problem with the Fritz8 gui? Any help would be apriciated. Thanks!

Best Wishes

Hello Michael,
many thanks in advance for your very fine open source program Romi!

About your question:
I have tried it out for test purposes and the WB2UCI.exe in connection with
RomiP2c worked fine in the chessprogram8.exe, what is the Fritz Gui.
So there is a chance that Viktor made a little mistake when configuring,
because it works here.
I used an elementary configuration only, just like the one Viktor used:

[ENGINE]
Name=RomiP2c
Author=Michael Sherwin
Filename=RomiP2c.exe

[OPTIONS]
Program=ProtoRomi2c.exe

with ProtoRomi2c.exe being your engine and RomiP2c.exe beeing the renamed wb2uci.exe.
The adapter files should be in the same location as the original Romi.
Version of wb2uci.exe is dated from 6. Januar 2004, there are newer ones, I think,
maybe it can help to use an older one, like this above, but I am just guessing.
There are quite some versions of the chessprogram8.exe (->several updates), too, important can be the "uci.dll", a new and actual version is just out and can be found on the chessbase homepage. Could be a matter, too.
(-> http://www.chessbase.de/download/index. ... %2DEngines)

The time management problem of 2a/b seems to be finished now, thx for fixing.

Feel free of course to ask any additional question, there are many people here,
who know much more about these things than me and like to help.
Btw:
The Chess Problems section of the forum is for problemists, these guys going
for the long and complicated mates. It is not about software problems.

regards
Peter

Thanks Peter,
I will send your responce to Viktor. I am relieved to know that 2c is okay. I really need to start concentrating on the rewrite. It will be much better than the prototype version. Not that the prototype can not be made better, much better, it is just that I can not do both. It would be nice if there would be someone to partner with that would take over for me on the prototype version and share credit. Thanks again!

Best Wishes
Michael

G?nther had a problem with Romi not playing two games in a row. When I checked the source it looked as if gameOver was not set to FALSE after a 'new'. You might want to check that
Richard.
