Hi

Funny you should mention it is fast and stable as I downloaded it earlier today and left it running an FRC tourney under Arena. Glaurung Mainz is crashing for me very frequently.
I havent seen exactly when it is crashing, but an educated guess is that it is when it tries to castle.
I am wondering if the confusion over the way castling is reported to the GUI is the reason for the crash ? Can Tord or anyone confirm that Glaurung Mainz is not compatible with Arena when running in FRC mode ?

Regards Geoff

Thanks Wael, got it now. Leo's news page shows this ...

Updated: Glaurung Mainz (UCI only! FRC, Linux, Mac OS X and source!)

and dummy me assumed there was no windows version.

Regarding the beta "thingy", i can hardly wait. It's like Xmas in August. :-)

update

Assuming I understand the FRC castling rules correctly, I have just seen a crash occur when there are still blocking pieces between king and rooks, so my guess about the crash being at the point of castling is incorrect. Arena has quite a few setup options so it could be a mistake I have made in the setup of the engine or the tourney (I have never tried to run an FRC tourney before)

Hope I am not worrying Tord with this post being so close to the Mainz event. It is more than likely something dumb I have missed in the setup

Geoff

Hi,
Sorry, but I don't use the FRC features of Glaurung,so I have no idea even though I have the feeling it's an option setup case

Hi Geoff,

Sorry for my late reply. I was in Mainz and didn't see your message until now.

Yeah. I never thought I would see the words "fast" and "Glaurung" in the same sentence.

You are right. Glaurung is a UCI engine. FRC support is a very recent addition to the UCI protocol, and is not yet added to Arena. If you really want to play FRC with Glaurung in Arena, run it as a Winboard engine using the most recent PolyGlot beta. This particular setup is untested, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. It will definitely not work with older versions of PolyGlot, though.

The recommended and most thoroughly tested ways of playing FRC with Glaurung are to use the Shredder GUI (which I used myself in Mainz) or one of the two recent FRC enabled xboard versions.
