Which do you prefer? What advantages does Winboard have over Arena? I just found Arena and so far it looks better to me. Thanks

Cancel this. I already got rid of it. Too unstable on my machine. Thanks anyway.

There are some known bugs in tournament mode and when playing on chess servers. If the bug is reproduceable you may try to contact the programmer. You can't be sure but usually bug reports are appreciated.

From my point of view the advantages of Winboard is still its reliability and that it is open source. Take a look in the "Tinkering with Winboard" thread and you will see how fast (and how good) Winboard can be changed to new requirements. There are also a lot of additonal programs available which makes Winboard still competitive (and superior in my eyes). As one example: Winboard + a Tounament Manager + Live transmission. Also possible with Arena but with some more bugs.

With the help of the other moderators I hope to keep this forum worth visiting. Maybe you have noticed there are other chess forums where things are handled different.
