Suddenly all pages look corrupted. It seems _no_ pics are loaded
anymore? (My browser settings are ok -> accept all images)
Perhaps the directory has changed somehow? Hopefully no attack?

You should refresh your browser and clear your cache Roger
Regrettably my suspicion was correct
It is an attack(I guess from the usual side...). Meanwhile all images
of the WB forum are hijacked and replaced by white images with
one black sentence: 'This image has been stolen from:
http://www.volker-pittlik.name'

If you know the guilty party, is there any legal action that is possible?

How about banning his whole domain?

I had some guy from Holland who would log on with 100 threads, and all of them would be doing recursive directory listings constantly to peg my CPU. So I put his address into my banned list, with wildcards for the last two segments.

From the description it doesn't sound like an attack, but since Volker doesn't want to discuss it publicly I won't.
