I simply would like to know if there is a way to prevent Crux 5.0m from crashing at almost every game. I had this problem under Fritz, and I notice the same with Arena. I use WinXP Home

Hello Olivier,
I found it runs more stable under Arena if you launch it from a bat file.

Create a .bat file e.g crux.bat in Crux folder.
Type in bat file > crux.exe -xboard

In engine-management > command line - set it up to load from the .bat file.
C:\Program Files\Arena\Engines\crux\CRUX-winboard\crux.bat
or whatever your path is.

Hi Olivier,

I have learned from the author that there is a bug in Crux that will make it crash when it castles. Check the games you played if this may be the problem.

Many thanks for the information. This may be the case in my first game here, Crux had not castled yet.

A huge bug indeed. If you are in contact with the author, is there a possibility to ask him if he has a bugfix ready ?

I haven't met him for some time, but in May he promised a complete rewrite of his program. It will take some time, I guess...

Thanks for the information, Gabor. So, unless the hint given by Jim Ablett gives some result, I fear I'll get more crashes
