A utility to embed eloratings into a pgn file

Chess guis create pgn files from engine tournaments. But these pgn files do not have elo ratings in them. Elostat uses these pgn files to create elo ratings that are put into a separate file called ratings.dat.

This utility embed.exe takes the data from ratings.dat and embeds in back into the pgn file that was used to create the ratings.dat file.

I have only tried it on "simple" pgn files which have the comments deleted. I use pgn-extract to "simplify" complex pgn files. Instructions are in the readme.

Hi,

many persons discuss for a while a longer time about this topic in Arena Support Forum.

Main idea:
After each game or round in a still running tournament Arena should set the "actual new" rating in PGN and tournament table. For some reasons its very complicated to do it.

All played games should be in a main database.

Arena have to give a tournament ELO and a main ELO, created from the main database. Perhaps the main ELO after the torunament and the tournament ELO during after each new tournament game.

Very complicated ...

After all we discuss again for a short time about this topic. The result can be see in Arena 1.99. Arena have little new options to set by hand an ELO.

Set an ELO in the engine configuration and Arena set the same automatically in the tournament configuration. You can see the ELO, Flag, actual evaluation during a game.

To set ELO in the database is of course right.

But thinking on the following problem:

Example:
I added Shredder 9.1 with 2.750 ELO in a tournament. Arena saved 2.750 for each Shredder 9.1 games in PGN. Other persons download the games and have an other opinion about Shredder's ELO level :-)

The idea to create a tool for it is much better as to added complicated features directly in a grafical user interface.

Best
Frank

I'm looking for a place to host this utility. My site is just temporary. Any offers? thanx
