Guide for using UCI chess engines with Winboard

Someone on another forum asked the simple question - What is a Polyglot file used for?

I responded to the question with a too lengthy posting showing how to set up Winboard to use UCI chess engines.

I thought the Winboard Forum might be an appropriate place to post the 'too lengthy posting' too.

If just one person (a newbie) searching for information gains benefit from this posting then I would consider it having been worth doing.

No need to make it a sticky. It would get old for the forum visitors rather quick seeing it at the top of the threads all of the time.

Someone doing a search for information through a search engine or such would run across it easily enough I would think.


One minor bother though is the graphics are on photobucket and though I won't cancel my account there, if photobucket goes bust or they cancel my account then the graphics will disappear.
