A win32 port of the chess engine that comes as part
of the Slibo Linux chess gui program.
Note: doesn't run in Win98

Console mode not working on some computers,
but xboard mode '-xboard' is working ok.
Should work on Win98 too in xboard mode.

I'm having trouble getting Slibo to run under Arena 1.1 on my XP box. This is what the debug output is giving me:

Hi Tony,

Looks like it's crashing fo you on the 'protover' command. Try running engine in old Winboard 1 protocol (which will disable this command)
till I can fix it.

I have found a small error in the protover command. Maybe this was causing the crash.
Try updated/fixed exe below >

Hi Jim. I'm sorry for being a pain in the butt. I was getting the same message, whether or not I used the Winboard or Winboard (old) setting, even with the bugfix b version.

It did work fine, however, on my AMD Turion laptop running Windows XP x64 edition. The machine that was having problems is a plain jane Pentium 4 running XP Professional.

I also did notice one other thing, Slibo doesn't like controls of game in x minutes, with or without an increment. I was trying faster time controls like 3/0 and 1/1. It takes too much time using those particular time controls. It's ok with x moves in y minutes type time controls. I guess this was something that was a problem before the Windows port.

This is very true, dear Doctor...

Andrew also made for me a version of KnightCap that does not need the cumbersome installation tricks of the public version. Mine can even use an external book :twisted:

Cool,I love this program for it's evaluation learning feature although it's hard to install it and make it running softly....
I don't have enough games yet to confirm if this feature is of any help to improve the program performance....

I have a litlle problem with the engine Slibo v0.4.8. It does not work on my PC under Arena 2.01. I installed it as a WB engine, but it creates a file with extension stackdump. This is what it has inside:

Hi Carlos,

I have had a report about Slibo not working on Pentium D before. I think this is a Cygwin issue.
Using an older version of Cygwin for compiling may solve it. I'll compile it and put up link here
later.

On the other hand, I was testing your Braincrack and CPW compiles under Arena 2.01 and noticed that both ponder (even when I set ponder to OFF in a tournament), but they simply use the other core while the other engine is thinking. Is there anyway to fix this, adding some commands perhaps?

Maybe CPW src has been updated a little since I compiled it. I will check.
This this is known bug in Braincrack. I have looked at this before a while back.
I'll take another look.
