2 silent updates for Bison today

There have been 2 silent updates today to Bison by Ivan Bonkin

First, the sourceforge Bison.exe download file was silently updated
http://sourceforge.net/project/platform ... _id=264963 (direct download)
Then, Dann Corbit posted a bug report to sourceforge
http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7439485
Dann also put up a silent update of Bison on his site
http://cap.connx.com/chess-engines/new- ... /bison.zip (direct download)

I wonder if all of Dann's bugfixes were included in the sourceforge silent update?
There may be more bugfixing tomorrow! I hope they will not be silent any more.
(Authors: please change the version number when updating an engine!)

I put a bug message on the SourceForge message board (since I do not know his email)

I am not sure what is wrong to cause the second error yet.

64 bit mode is a lot more picky about addressing memory out of bounds.

I suspect a call up stack that has a hardwired parameter of [1] for the address but I do not have time to debug it right now.

Hi Ron and Dann,
Both silent updates still crash at Arena in my PC.

There was yet another silent update of Bison 9.6, this time at SDChess

http://www.sdchess.ru/download_engines.htm (SDChess website)
http://www.sdchess.ru/engines/Bison_9.6n.rar (direct download of 32-bit exe)
http://www.sdchess.ru/engines/Bison_9.6n_sources.rar (direct download of source)

I have no idea if these files are bugfixed or not. Right now there are 3 places to download this engine.

Meanwhile at WJChess this information was posted today:
"Bison 9.6 obtient un premier rating de 2507."
This was based on a tournament played at Le Fou numérique
So it seems that some people are able to play this engine and some are not.

Hi Ron,

IMHO it are the same files as Dann made available at 11-06, also the version number did not changed?
In console:
"uci
id name Bison 9.6
id author Ivan Bonkin
option name Hash type spin default 16 min 8 max 256
option name Clear Hash type button
option name MultiPV type spin default 1 min 1 max 16
option name Ponder type check default false
option name Rate of play type combo default normal var slow var normal var fast
option name UCI_ShowCurrLine type check default false
option name UCI_EngineAbout type string default Bison by Bonkin Ivan
uciok"

So it is no update, people who downloaded Dann his files at from 11-06 dont need to re-download IMHO?

"I'm happy the version number changed! :-)" = only the name of the downloadfile :-)

Best wishes,
Leo

Hi Leo,

I looked at the exe files inside the zip.
bison96a32.exe
bison96a64.exe
BISON.exe
I think that BISON.exe is probably the original 9.6 file.

And I think that the intent of naming the files was to create a 9.6a version even though the engine does not print this.

It's very difficult to determine what's going on without careful compares of all the files. I don't have the time for this, so I made assumptions. In this case I believe that you are correct: The zip file at sourceforge seems to be the same as the one at Dann's page.

I think that Dann's intent was to create a 9.6a version, but for some reason he didn't change the engine's internal version number.

This whole business with Bison is very strange indeed!

Best regards,
Ron
