WinBoard saving twice

In WinBoard I have set the option Save game automatically to a previously specified file. When the game is over and I exit WB I find the game saved all right - but twice. How can I prevent this?
It seems the first save is done when the game is finished, and it is repeated on exit.

For a confirmation I just checked here and the same thing is happening with double entries being saved to the PGN file. I hadn't looked at the PGN file recently.

Most likely you still have the last game "open" when you exit WinBoard. It is very hard for WinBoard to figure out if this game should be saved. (You could just have been editing it, adding comments.) This can be prevented by cicking New Game before exiting. I am not sure how to handle this differently prvious attempt always led to loss of games in some other situations.
